Columbia Falls spikers drop Whitefish

COLUMBIA FALLS – The Columbia Falls Wildkats downed the Whitefish Bulldogs 25-17, 25-16, 25-7 in Northwest Class A volleyball play on Tuesday.

“Our girls showed up to play tonight,” Columbia Falls coach Jolandie Brooks said. “They played a very clean game. Mady Hoerner had 10 aces. Ryley Kehr and Stella Bistodeau and Mady Hoerner lead our offense and found ways to put the ball on the floor. Angellica Street set us up for success with her serve receive passing. And Hannah Schweikert ran our offense according to our game plan.”

Street and Hoerner led Columbia Falls with 10 digs apiece.

Whitefish’s Marlee Bender had four kills and Kennedy Grove recorded seven digs and one service ace.

Flathead 3, Hellgate 1

The Bravettes improved to 9-8 overall with a 25-17, 28-26, 24-26, 25-22 over visting Missoula Hellgate (1-5 conference, 2-11 overall) in Class AA conference play. Flathead is 3-2 in conference play.

“It’s a really good conference win for us,” Flathead coach Nicole Fairclough said. “We started off the match strong and then kind of let up in a few areas. We got the win tonight, but we still have to keep working on our consistency as a team.”

At the net, Flathead’s Madde Boles had 12 kills. Boles had 11 digs and Maddie Lindbom 12.

Sentinel 3, Glacier 1

Missoula Sentinel defeated Glacier 25-21, 26-24, 17-25, 25-23 without without injured senior leader Shelby Schweyen in Western AA play.

For Glacier, Kali Gulick had 12 blocks and 15 kills.

Libby 3, Eureka 0

LIBBY – Undefeated Libby tuned up Eureka 25-20, 25-11, 25-11 in the “Battle of the Kootenai” nonconference match. Libby is now 9-0 overall and 6-0 in Class A conference play.

“This was a good win tonight,” Libby coach Cindy Ostrem-Johnston said. “We got off to a slow start and then tuned them up a bit. Credit to Eureka, they battled hard especially in that first set.”

Libby’s Mehki Sykes was a force at the net with 25 kills, while Jayden Winslow had six kills and 13 digs.

For Eureka, Maggie Graves had two service aces and 11 kills. Avory Escobar notched 20 assists.

Bigfork 3, Stillwater 2

Bigfork dropped the Stillwater Christian 25-21, 16-25, 26-28, 25-18, 5-15 to improve to 5-3 overall in a nonconference match at Stillwater Christian School.

Stillwater is 8-4 overall.

“Senior Helen Hashley continues to be a strong force for the Lady Cougars,” Stillwater coach Diane Smith said. “Pushing to the end, despite some serving and passing struggles.”

Hashley had two service aces, 17 kills and 11 blocks for Stillwater.

Bigfork’s Brook Fraley had eight aces, 15 kills.
