Softball Wolfpack, Bravettes 1-1 vs. Sentinel, Big Sky

The Glacier Wolfpack split a Thursday home Western AA softball doubleheader against two Missoula schools, first with a 8-6 loss to Sentinel and then a 29-1 rout of Big Sky.

“Our pitchers faced 13 batters in three innings,” Glacier coach Abby Connolly said of the first game.

“We were disappointed to lose, but it gave us some things to improve on,” Connolly added.

“I am proud of them for battling back to get a win in that second game. That will help not only our conference record, but (today) versus Hellgate.”

Sage Vanterpool had a double, a home run and two RBIs to help Glacier beat Big Sky. Versus Sentinel, Vanterpool was 2 for 4 with two RBIs.

Halle Schroeder hit an inside the park grand slam in the second game. She was 2 for 2 with four RBIs.

Glacier hosts Hellgate today at 4 p.m.

Flathead posted mixed results in its doubleheader, starting off with a 17-0 win against Missoula Big Sky and ending the day with an 18-7 loss to Missoula Sentinel at Kidsports Complex.

“We played much better today overall,” Flathead coach Jack Foster said. “We hit a few strikes. (Illysa) Centner threw really well in the first game.”

Kayla Kallis hit a three-run home run and a double in the first game. Brianna Morales also had a three-run home run in that game.

Against Sentinel, Alyssa Cadwalader hit a three-run home run, but the Bravettes couldn’t match the visitors efficient hitters.

“We battled and came back but Sentinel hit the heck out of us,” Foster said. “A definite improvement. We’re getting better.”

Flathead next visits Hellgate on Saturday at 11 a.m.

POLSON — Columbia Falls scored three runs in the fifth inning to pull out a Northwest A win in a tight contest with Polson.

Ryley Kehr and Isabel Johnson each had two doubles for the Wildkats. Kehr also had four hits.

Trista Cowan homered for Columbia Falls (2-3 overall, 2-1 league) and had two hits.

For Polson, Kaylanna DesJarlais had three hits, a double, and two RBIs.

EUREKA — Eureka scored three times in the bottom of the seventh inning to slide by Plains 6-5 in Western B-C play for a doubleheader split.

Plains took the other contest 5-3.

Maya Carvey, 4 for 5, drove in two runs for Eureka in the victory.

Ciara Miller also had two hits, including a triple.

Carvey doubled and tripled while Michael Shea and Haylie Hall also doubled.

Eureka outhit Plains 11-4.

Avory Escobar tossed a 4-hitter. She struck out nine and walked four.

Dakota Butcher homered for Plains.

In the other contest, Plains used a three-run third inning to take a 4-1 lead and held on from there.

Escobar went 2 for 3 and had one RBI.

Sydney Jackson, Kassidy Kinzie and Izzy Butcher had two hits each for Plains.
