Bigfork Players take on menopause

The Bigfork Community Players present Devon Williamson’s comedy “Menopause Made Me Do It” at the Bigfork Center for the Performing Arts Friday through Sunday, April 26, 27 and 28.

It’s a love story, in a twisted sort of way. Shaun is secretly in love with Kay and desperate enough that he has forcibly enlisted the assistance of four middle-aged (and menopausal) women to encourage her to marry him. Shaun has some history with these women, whom he’s locked in a motel room for a conversation. He and the ladies went to high school together, oh, so many years ago. And he gets the credit for getting one of them pregnant back then. She’s not the one he’s in love with, but perhaps the critical mistake in his plan is that you don’t lock a group of menopausal women inside a confined area with yourself and hope for a positive result.

“It’s a really funny play,” Director John Goroski said. “But after locking myself in a room with five middle-aged women for two months to rehearse this play, I find I have some sympathy for Shaun.

“Seriously,” he continued, “the actors are having so much fun getting into character that it’s hard to tell if it’s real or acting. One actor summed it up best when she said, ‘I’m feeling this part.’”

“Menopause Made Me Do It” plays Friday and Saturday at 7:30 p.m., and Saturday and Sunday at 2 p.m. Tickets are available at Bigfork Drug, Pocketstone Cafe, Kalispell Grand Hotel, and at the door. Adult tickets are $15, students/seniors are $10, and Children under 12 are $5.
