County Planning Board considers subdivision for church

A request for preliminary plat approval for a subdivision that would span nearly 41 acres for a proposed Saint Herman Orthodox Church tops today’s Flathead County Planning Board agenda.

The property, which is unzoned, is located 285 North Hill Road just west of Kalispell at the intersection of North Hill Road and Morning View Drive, and is owned by the Stimer Family Trust.

The proposed subdivision would create one residential lot and one lot for the placement of a church and accessory structures, according to the planning staff report. As of the completion of the staff report, no public comment had been received from the public regarding the proposal.

The board also will hear three zone-change requests.

One request comes from Charles and Jeannette Pisk for a zoning map amendment. If approved, the amendment would change the zoning of properties at 532 Prairie View Road near Kalispell, from suburban agricultural and agricultural to rural residential. The total acreage is approximately 31 acres.

A second request made by Peter William Busch Revocable Trust is also for a zoning map amendment that would change the zoning of a nearly 30-acre property from suburban agricultural to rural residential. The property is located at 455 Blanchard Lake Drive near Whitefish and is located in the Rural Whitefish Zoning District.

Finally, the planning board will hear a zone change request from Mark Francom for his 10-acre property at 152 Dancing Aspen Way in Kalispell. If approved, the property, located in the Highway 93 North District, would change from SAG-10, suburban agricultural with a 10-acre minimum lot size, to SAG-5, suburban agricultural with a 5-acre minimum lot size.

The Flathead County Planning and Zoning Board meets today, Aug. 14, at 6 p.m. on the second floor conference room of the South Campus Building at 40 11th St. W. in Kalispell. Recommendations from the planning board regarding the requests are forwarded to the Flathead County Commissioners for final consideration.
