Henry A. Herman, 74
Henry A. Herman, 74, passed away on Aug. 18, 2019, at The HealthCenter in Kalispell.
Henry was born Aug. 17, 1945, to Anna and Phillip Herman in Williston, North Dakota, and moved with his family to Columbia Falls when he was about 1 year old and lived there his entire life. Henry attended Columbia Falls schools and, at the age of 16 with his twin brother Charles, went to work at Rocky Mountain Lumber. At the age of 18 they both went to work at Stoltz Lumber Company. Henry remained there for over 33 years until a work injury caused him to retire. He then became the cook of the household much to the delight of his wife.
At the age of 18 he was drafted into the Army where he served one and a half years for his country in Vietnam. After his discharge he married the girl he loved since she was 17, Darlene Weiand. They were married June 14, 1969, and celebrated 50 years together this past June. Of this union they had two sons, Wade and Guy. Henry loved his sons, adored his granddaughters and was lucky enough to have great-granddaughters who had a special place in his heart.
Henry was an avid sportsman, hunting anything that was in season. Fall was his favorite hunting time; hearing the elk bugle was his rush. Fishing was his number one passion. One of his greatest accomplishments was shooting a trophy bull elk with his bow that landed him in the “Pope and Young” book.
Henry was preceded in death by his parents, brothers Arnie and Donnie and his sister, Mary.
He is survived by his wife, Darlene; his sons, Wade (Leslie) and Guy (Michelle); granddaughters, Brittney Herman Malley (James), and Jade Herman; great-granddaughters, Maddison and Gracelynn.; siblings, twin brother Charles, Robert, Rose, Kathleen, Harold and Vivian; his best friend, Ole Toftum; and his companion in crime, his little buddy girl, Maggie Mae; and numerous nephews, nieces and cousins.
A vigil service will be held at 7 p.m. Aug. 22 at St. Richard Catholic Church. A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11 a.m. Friday, Aug. 23, at St. Richard Catholic Church. Burial with military honors will take place at St. Richard Catholic Cemetery, followed by a luncheon back at the church.
