POLSON — Hat tricks by Niels Getts and Josie Windauer carried Columbia Falls to a sweep of Polson in Northern A boys and girls soccer play on Thursday evening.

It was the season opener for both schools.

Getts scored one minute into play and added goals at 13 and 60 minutes as the boys won 4-1.

Tyler Hull had the other Columbia Falls goal.

Tristan Snyder scored for Polson at 13 minutes to tie the match at 1-all.

“One of our main scoring threats up top,” Columbia Falls coach O’Brien Byrd said of Getts. “He put three away for us.”

Columbia Falls outshot Polson on goal 27-8 and led in corner kicks 7-1.

“We’re implementing a new style of play, completely different from last year,” Byrd said. “The game plan worked. We had 27 chances, only scored four. If we work on our finishing, we will be OK.”

Windauer netted the first and last goals for the Wildkats in a 7-3 girls victory over Polson.

Windauer scored at 4, 6, 33 and 53 minutes.

Also scoring for Columbia Falls were Flora Jarvis, Maddie Robinson and Cheyanne Johnston-Heinz.

“Our offense came to play,” Columbia Falls coach Thomas Clark said.

“You always expect to get goals from Josie, but to get contributions from Cheyanne, Maddie and Flora was huge today. They played fantastic.”

Autumn Burland, Sarah Kinzle and Sophia Moderie scored for Polson.

Columbia Falls had 22 shots on goal to seven for Polson. Corner kicks favored Columbia Falls 4-0.

Columbia Falls is back in action Saturday at Hamilton. The boys play at 1 p.m. and the girls at 3. Polson’s next outing is Sept. 5 at Corvallis.
