Man facing extradition for felony charge in Washington

A man in Flathead County Jail is awaiting extradition back to Washington state after officials there allege he left his mother, who is suffering from dementia, in a senior-living home without paying for her care.

According to a July 2018 story on heraldnet.com, Mark Myron Peters, 59, is facing a felony theft charge in Snohomish County.

The story indicated Peters had failed to show up for a court hearing in the fall of 2017 and was being sought by law enforcement officials in Lynnwood, Washington.

While the story of a fugitive being held in the Flathead County Jail isn’t all that unusual, Peters’ case does have a bit of a twist.

His father, Myron C. Peters, was reported missing in June 2016 in Hawaii. Police in Maui aren’t commenting on the case.

Mark Peters has been in Montana for some time and was mentioned in a July 2016 story in the The Western News when he and his wife, Rosemary, were rescued after going without food and water for several days in the Elk Creek area. At the time, Lincoln County Sheriff Roby Bowe said he believed drugs were involved in the event.

According to the heraldnet.com, Lynnwood Police Commander Sean Doty said detectives were working to bring Peters back to Snohomish County.

Washington officials alleged Mark Peters had drained his mother’s bank accounts and it appeared he had stolen Social Security checks from both parents.
