HELENA – The Glacier Wolfpack girls basketball team dealt Helena High its first loss of the season on Friday, winning 34-31 in a tight Western AA clash.

“I’m pretty excited,” Glacier coach Bill Sullivan said. “We certainly played well.”

Glacier started fast and led 15-6 after one quarter. Helena fought back in the second, holding Glacier to two points in the second.

“Helena High’s a good team, we knew they would fight back,” Sullivan said. “The message at half time was they gave us their shot, we have to give them our shot.”

At the end of the third, the teams were tied 23-all.

Glacier (6-3, 10-5) outscored Helena (8-1, 14-1) 11-8 in the final frame, led by Kali Gulick’s 3-pointer and Aubrie Rademacher staying perfect at the free-throw line.

“You know you can play with them you just have to be solid all game long,” Sullivan said. “There’s gonna be things that go good and go bad. Things came out in favor of us so we’re happy to win.”

Rademacher drained both her shots at the charity stripe and shared the team scoring lead with Raley Shirey. Both players scored 10 points.

Shirey was also spotless at the free-throw line. Gulick scored two 3-pointers en route to eight points.

“That’s what you expect of your seniors, especially playing against Jamie Pickens, the best player in the state,” Sullivan said.

Helena’s Pickens was held to 11 points on the night.

The Wolfpach outrebounded Helena 33-24.
