The Kalispell Area Music Teachers Association is sponsoring a concert in memory of the late Betty Hanzel at 3 p.m. Sunday, March 3, at St. Matthew’s Catholic Church, 602 S. Main St., Kalispell. The concert is free and the public is invited.

Hanzel, who died Aug. 12, 2018, was among the founding members of the Music Teachers Association in 1977, serving as president in the early ‘90s and on various committees in the association. She attended most Montana State Music Teachers Association conferences and was awarded her 40-year certificate as a member in November 2016. She was honored as Teacher of the Year in 2012 when the Kalispell Area Music Teachers hosted the state conference. She taught piano lessons to 1,200 students in over 65 years and was a mentor to many teachers in KAMTA.

Community Kitchen-Feeding the Flathead offers the following free meals in Kalispell during March. All meals are served at 6 p.m. unless otherwise noted. Everyone is welcome.

Lakeside library hosts birthday for Dr. Seuss

West Shore Community Library in Lakeside is hosting a Dr. Seuss birthday party at 1 p.m. Saturday, March 2.

Free books will be given away courtesy of Community Action Partnership of Northwest Montana.

“CAPNM is interested in getting books into the community for all kids,” said executive director Tracy Diaz. “The focus is low income, but it’s for all kids and it’s about trying to build and increase family engagement.”

Birthday guests will also enjoy games and free cookies.

Rock talk part of winter speaker series

Glacier National Park Volunteer Associates annual Winter Speaker series presents Glacier Park ranger Teagan Tomlin on “If Rocks Could Talk: A Geologic History of GNP,” at 7 p.m. Monday, Feb, 25, at the Museum at Central School, Kalispell. The presentation is free and the public is invited.

Tomlin, an interpretative ranger in Glacier Park, will take listeners through the park’s geologic history and describe four major phases that helped shape the park’s scenery.

Code Girls hold two fundraising nights

Code Girls United, offering year-round free afterschool STEM programs for girls, will be part of the NW Regional App Challenge, May 11-12 at Flathead Valley Community College. This is a free, two-day event for girls from fourth through eighth grades from Montana, Idaho, Washington, Wyoming, and Canada.

Two fundraisers will support the group and the event. The first is March 2 at Casey’s in Whitefish from 5 to 8 p.m., with drink specials and a raffle. Another will be on March 19 at Flathead Lake Brewing in Bigfork. Starting at 5 p.m., $1 per each beer purchased and 50 cents per soft drink will be donated to Code Girls United.
