Mary Ann Rodman, 70

Mary Ann Rodman, a longtime Whitefish resident, passed away at St. Pat’s in Missoula on Jan. 21, 2019.

Mary Ann was born to Al and Lorraine Hoffman in Whitefish on Jan. 14, 1949.

She was preceded in death by both parents and her brother Greg Hoffman.

She is survived by her husband Gary Rodman, son Jesse Rodman and daughter-in-law Lori Bemis.

Mary Ann was a Whitefish High graduate and was a lifeguard at City Beach during her high school and college years. She received a journalism degree from the University of Washington in 1971. Mary Ann worked for the Federal Communications Commission in Washington, D.C. until 1973. She returned home and married in 1974 when she started a family. Mary Ann worked for Whitefish High School as a tutor teacher until 1988. She remained a homemaker and had the tough job of being a railroad wife.

Mary Ann played a huge role in Junior Golf for Montana where she received three Hall of Fame honors. The Hall of Fame honors were from Whitefish Lake, Ladies Montana State Golf Association and she was the first women to be inducted to the men’s MSGA. She was team captain for Montana at the Junior Americas Cup for many years. She also served on Junior Americas Cup board.

Mary Ann was an avid sports fan. She followed the Whitefish Bulldogs for as long as she was able. Also, she followed the Zags and her Huskies.

Mary Ann was a private, caring, intelligent liberal who will be missed by family and friends.

A celebration of Mary Ann’s life will be held in early golf season in Whitefish. Dates will be posted later.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Whitefish Food Bank.
