Dorothy Gene Sherman McGlenn, 93
On Friday, July 5, 2019, Dorothy Gene Sherman McGlenn peacefully passed from this world at the Kalispell Regional Medical Center. Dorothy was loved for her generosity, kindness and good humor. She was a wonderful woman, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, great-great-grandmother, friend, and confidant to so many.
Dorothy was born Dec. 11, 1925, at the Sister of Mercy Hospital in Kalispell to Cornelia and John Sherman. The day after her birth and while mother and daughter were still in the hospital, the hospital was bombed, fortunately with no injuries. Dorothy always said she came into this world with a “bang.”
Dorothy graduated from Flathead County High School in 1939 and attended Washington State University for a time before returning home to Kalispell to help her mother during the war. She worked as a clerk for Flathead Commercial Company, later as a bookkeeper at Mountain States Power Company and at the Liberty Theater in Kalispell. After meeting and marrying Gene McGlenn, they created, owned and operated Flathead Travel Service.
Dorothy volunteered and worked with many groups over the years and was very proud to be one of the founders of the Museum at Central School.
Dorothy was preceded in death by her mother and father, two brothers Roger and John Sherman, sisters Cornelia and Elizabeth, and her beloved husband of 62 years, Archie “Gene” McGlenn.
She is survived by her children, Micki Nonemacher, Darcy Lard and Roger McGlenn, plus 13 grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren. Dorothy also “adopted” numerous persons whom she took under her wing for emotional support after they lost parents or grandparents.
A celebration of life at the Museum at Central School is being planned for Sept. 14 from 2 to 4 p.m.
The family asks that, in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the Museum at Central School, 124 Second Ave. E., Kalispell, Montana 59901.
Johnson-Gloschat Funeral Home is caring for the family.
