This month’s Women Who Wine – Flathead (WWWF) program will benefit the Montana Institute of the Arts (MIA), a nonprofit organization that prepares students for the film industry and promotes Montana-made projects. Actress Kate Bosworth, an MIA instructor, will attend the event and speak about the work of MIA. Bosworth is known for her roles in “The Horse Whisperer,” “Remember the Titans” and “Blue Crush.”

The event is open to the community and is scheduled from 5:30 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, July 16, in the large community room of the Arts and Technology Building on the Flathead Valley Community College campus. Although there is no charge to attend the event, WWWF requests that guests contribute $30 and a bottle of wine at the door. In addition to the presentation about MIA, there will be a raffle and a wine auction.

WWWF, a fund of the Flathead Community Foundation, brings women of all ages together each month for social and professional networking and to learn about and support charitable causes in the Flathead Valley. Membership is open and requires a commitment to contribute $30 and a bottle of wine per gathering attended.

Each year, WWWF holds a Giving Banquet to award the beneficiary nonprofits. The banquet will be held Oct. 8 at FVCC.

Tickets are $50 each plus a bottle of wine. They may be purchased online at www.flatheadcommunityfoundation.org or at the door.

Pints for Paths benefits Glacier-area trail

Pints for Paths, the annual benefit for Gateway to Glacier Trail, will be held from 5 to 10 p.m., Saturday, July 20, Heaven’s Peak Resort in West Glacier.

Enjoy Montana beer from over 20 breweries and live music from Dave Jordan and MIA from New Orleans throughout the evening.

Non-alcoholic soda, ice cream for floats and food vendors will also be available.

Lone PIne program presents influential wife of C.M. Russell

Montana State Parks will host “The Artist, His Wife, and the Land of Shining Mountains” at 7 p.m. Thursday, July 18, at Lone Pine State Park near Kalispell

Sponsored by Humanities Montana and the C.M. Russell Museum in Great Falls, the program portrays Nancy Cooper Russell — wife and business manager of renowned western artist Charles M. Russell — a woman ahead of her time. A self-taught businesswoman with the propensity to take charge, Nancy helped Charlie Russell become the highest-paid living artist of his time.

Join historic interpreter Mary Jane Bradbury as she brings Nancy Russell to life, sharing the story of life with Montana’s cowboy artist, his gift for portraying the West of our imaginations, and his abiding connection to the place he called home.

Bradbury is a scholar and actress with over 25 years experience who brings history to life for audiences of all ages in the Rocky Mountain region. She is a member of the Humanities Montana and Colorado Humanities Speakers Bureaus, and before moving to Montana, was a historic interpreter for the Denver Museum of Nature and Science.

Garden tour aids scholarship fund

The Flathead County Democratic Women’s Club is sponsoring its fourth annual Garden Tour Scholarship Fundraiser from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. July 20, rain or shine

The self-guided tour features nine gardens in Whitefish and the surrounding area showcasing beautiful, horticultural designs with a strong educational component, including sustainable and organic gardening and a community garden that includes “Plant A Row for the Hungry.” Educational gardening information from Montana State University will be given out during the tour.

Proceeds from the tour will go toward 500 scholarships that are based on merit, need and personal values, in the 2019-2020 school year to Flathead County graduating seniors and qualifying FVCC students.

The tour also features a Mini Garden Market and plant sale, free refreshments and prize drawings for gift certificates from area nurseries and other local businesses. Winners need not be present.

Tickets are $15 per person (Children under 14 are admitted free with a paying adult.)

‘Generation Zapped’ documentary looks at screen health risks

A special screening of the award-winning documentary “Generation Zapped” will be shown Wednesday, July 17, at Flathead Valley Community College, Room AT-202

An appetizer reception featuring produce provided by Terrapin Farms will be at 6:30 p.m., followed by the film and presentation from 7 to 9 p.m. speaker and FVCC adjunct professor Miriam Katz, author of “Cooking Up Good Vibrations.”

The event is free and the public is invited.

“Generation Zapped” reveals the high cost of addiction to digital devices and the health risks, especially for children and teens, from exposure to wireless radiation.

Like cigarettes and toxic chemicals before it, emerging science is revealing the concerning reality that some people may suffer health impacts from radiation from wireless devices. In “Generation Zapped” scientists, physicians and health researchers discuss the mounting scientific evidence regarding links to serious diseases such as breast and brain cancer, associations with increased infertility, genetic mutations related to autism and ADHD and newly developed illnesses, such as Electrical Sensitivity (ES).

Children and teens are especially susceptible to radiation from baby monitors, tablets and cell phones and wireless routers in the classroom. The documentary empowers audiences to understand how to reduce their exposure to protect themselves and their families.

Hope 406, a Montana 501c 3 whose mission is health education and community support, together with Terrapin Farms and GIA Wellness, are hosting the screening.

Summer raffle helps needy through Community Action Partnership

Community Action Partnership of Northwest Montana is having its fourth annual Summer Raffle through Friday, Aug. 16.

The drawing will be held right after the Northwest Montana Fair parade at noon on that date at the main office, 214 S. Main St., in downtown Kalispell.

Tickets are $5 each, or five for $20 and winners need not be present.

Tickets can be purchased at the main office right up until the drawing. Raffle items include his/her bikes, patio set (table, chairs, fire pit), and a variety of indoor/outdoor games.

All money goes to support the needy in the community, including woman, children, the elderly, and the homeless.

Community Action Partnership provides direct services to alleviate poverty, improve lives and strengthen communities, serving Lake, Lincoln, Flathead and Sanders counties.

Meals on Wheels needs drivers

The Flathead County Meals on Wheels program is in need of drivers for the Kalispell area.

As the program grows, so does the need for volunteer drivers. You can participate one or more times per week, Monday through Friday; staff will work around your schedule. By delivering meals and providing human contact to clients, you are helping them to stay in their own homes. Drivers must have their own vehicle, driver’s license and insurance.

Live History Days at Polson museum

The Miracle of America Museum in Polson hosts its annual Live History Days from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday and Sunday, July 20 and 21. See living history and historical demonstrations of pioneer crafts, blacksmithing, leather working, woodcarving, gunsmithing, rope making and glassblowing. There will also be rides and concessions on the grounds.

Regular admission is available, which is free for children under 2 $5 for youngsters 2 to 12; and $10 for anyone 13 and older.
