Young Lakers drop two in Great Falls
GREAT FALLS — Eric Seaman and Payton Davisson each had a hit and an RBI and Taylor Morton had two RBIs in a losing effort on Sunday for the Kalispell Lakers AA. The Lakers fell 6-5 to the host Great Falls Chargers in an American Legion baseball contest.
Kalispell led 3-0 after three innings Sunday, but the Chargers scored four runs in the fourth. The teams traded runs in the fifth and sixth.
Overall, the Lakers finished the weekend with one win and two losses at Great Falls. They split a doubleheader on Saturday, losing the first game 9-8, but bouncing back to take control of the second game, 9-2.
“We have had leads late in three of four losses. We are still young on the mound and in our lineup. There’s a learning curve, but bottom line is we need to learn how to finish,” said Lakers coach Ryan Malmin.
“We still have guys competing for starting jobs, so hopefully, guys will step up and we can start solidifying a lineup,” he said.
“With a young group, you know there’s going to be growing pains, and the goal is to peak at the end of the season. As long as we can learn from our mistakes and keep getting more experience then we should peak at the right time,” he added.
Jack Corriveau was 3-for-4 in Saturday’s 9-2 win with two doubles and two RBI. Ryan Symmes contributed three RBI in that one. Wes Palmer held Great Falls to six hits to pick up the win.
Payton Davisson batted 4-for-4 in the the 9-8 loss. He had three doubles and three RBI.
