Ralph (Skip) Townsend Mancill, 91

Ralph (Skip) Townsend Mancill, 91, passed away Monday, June 10, 2019 at the Lake View Care Center in Bigfork.

Mr. Mancill was the son of the late Ralph Townsend Mancill, Sr. and Mary Dubeck Mancill of Philadelphia. Spending much time when he was growing up, at his grandmother’s home in New Hope, Penn., and also summering in Maine.

Mr. Mancill was a graduate of the King’s Point Merchant Marine Academy on Long Island, N.Y. After graduating he served in the Merchant Marine. He later served in the U.S. Coast Guard.

Early in his career, he sailed as first mate with Moore-McCormick Lines on their cruise vessels to South America. Later, sailing on freighters to South Africa.

Returning from his life at sea to live in Washington, D.C. He then trained aspiring young men in the Sea Scouts.

Retiring to live in Bigfork. He was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints.

He is survived by his first cousin, Rachel Newkirk of Cape Cod, Mass., and cousin, Cristin Newkirk and her partner, Jim Stamegna of Boston. Another cousin, Jonathan Adams of Oakland. Also, his close friends Scott and Kim Reichner of Bigfork.

Both his cousins and friends wish to acknowledge and thank the caregivers at the Lakeview Care Center for their care and comfort during his residency.

A memorial service honoring Skip’s life will be held on Tuesday, June 18 at 1 p.m. at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints Bigfork Chapel at 121 Crestview Drive.
