Alzheimer’s awareness
The Flathead Area Chapter 646 of the National Association of Active and Retired Federal Employees hosts a fundraising and awareness of Alzheimer’s disease event from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. today at Rosauers on U.S. 93 South in Kalispell. There will be information on Alzheimer’s, the upcoming Walk to End Alzheimer’s event Sept. 8 at Flathead Valley Community College, and local resources. A fundraising drawing for a 32-inch TV will be held.
Cops and Bobbers
Flathead County Sheriff’s Office, Sheriff’s Posse, Montana Highway Patrol and Fish, Wildlife and Parks host the Cops and Bobbers fishing event from 3 to 7 p.m. today at Shady Lane Pond (behind the old Boys & Girls Club), in Kalispell.
Kids are welcome. Bring fishing poles; a few will be available to borrow. Bobbers, bait and hot dogs will be provided.
Solstice party
Flathead Land Trust and the Flathead Lakers host a summer solstice party today at a historic barn at the Hormuth’s Rivers End Ranch on the North Shore of Flathead Lake.
Festivities begin at 6:30 p.m. with live music by Mike Murray and Chris Krager. Somers Bay Cafe will provide food. Beer and wine from the Mission Mountain Winery will be available at a cash bar.
A short program will focus on the Flathead River Conservation Project to protect 155 acres of wetlands and riparian areas along the Flathead River.
All proceeds from a live fundraiser featuring wooden paddles hand-painted by local artists will benefit the Flathead River Conservation Project.

Birding trip
Expert birder Paul Rossi leads a field trip from 7 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday to explore a variety of habitats along U.S. 2 toward East Glacier, including the Lubec Lake and Coonsa Creek with an option to make it a whole day trip. Ministry fundraiser
Columbia Falls Women’s Connection has an indoor garage sale from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday at the North Valley Hospital community room in Columbia Falls. Proceeds will be donated to Stonecroft Ministries. For details, call Sherry at 892-5990.
CAP rummage sale
Community Action Partnership of Northwest Montana has its annual parking lot rummage sale from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday in the Glacier Bank parking lot, 212 Main St., in Kalispell.
All proceeds raised benefit those in need, including veterans, children, the elderly and the homeless.
Community Action Partnership serves Lake, Lincoln, Flathead and Sanders counties.
Flea market
Marion Fire Auxiliary has a flea market and raffle from 9 a.m. to 3 pm. Saturday at the Marion Fire Hall, 180 Gopher Lane in Marion.
Bike giveaway
Kalispell Elks Lodge no. 725 has its annual kids bike giveaway at 10 a.m. Saturday at the lodge at 1820 U.S. 93 S., in Kalispell.
The Sheriff’s Department and others donate unclaimed bikes as well as bikes needing repairs that lodge members repair.
Bikes and helmets will be given on a first-come-first-serve basis.

Feathered Friends
Montana Wild Wings Recovery Center has its annual Feathered Friends fundraiser from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday in the Fish, Wildlife and Parks Community Room, 490 N. Meridian, Kalispell.
Get up-close to live birds of prey with the Center’s education ambassadors. A silent auction will also take place.
Entry is by making a donation, or bringing an item(s) from the center’s wish list: Clorox antiseptic hand wipes, gallon-size white vinegar, Simple Green, peroxide, paper towels, gallon and quart size Ziploc bags, and gift cards to Costco and Murdoch’s.

Car show
DeSoto Grill in Kalispell hosts its Big Shindig car show from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday. Register for car show the day of the event.
Admission for general public is free.
Enjoy live music, a barbecue and beer. A pin-up polar plunge will take place. Raffles and an auction benefit Mikayla’s Miracles and Blessings.
Retirement reception
A retirement reception for Mary Ballenger, a longtime missionary to West Africa will be held from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday at Canvas Church, 255 Summit Ridge Drive, in Kalispell. Lunch will be provided with a short program following.
Adopt a kitten
KittyMOM’s Rescue is sponsoring a kitten adoption event from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday at Petco in Kalispell. All kittens are spayed/neutered, vaccinated, micro-chipped and litter-box trained. The adoption fee is $60. Bring your own carrier.

Circus in Ronan
The Safe Harbor circus comes to the Lake County Fairgrounds in Ronan on Saturday. Shows are at 2 and 4:30 p.m. Tickets are $15 for adults, and $8 for children.
A carnival will be open from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. with free admission. Game tickets are 50 cents each.
Circus in Somers
Somers Company Town Project hosts the Culpepper Merriweather Circus Sunday.
Two 90-minute performances of the one ring Big Top circus are scheduled, at 2 and 4:30 p.m. in the field across from the post office on Somers Road in downtown Somers.
Between 9:30 and 10 a.m. there will be a tent raising and free tour of the circus grounds.
At 1 p.m. a Midway opens, featuring pony rides, a moonbounce, concessions and more.
Tickets are on sale at all Sliters locations in Bigfork, Somers and Lakeside and the Somers Bay Cafe and the Somers Company Town Museum. Pre-ticket sales are children (ages 2 to 12) $7; adults, $12. Tickets at the door are children $8, adults $15.
Audubon outing
Refuge wildlife biologist Beverly Skinner leads a Flathead Audubon field trip on the Lost Trail National Wildlife Refuge from 8:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sunday to tour the wetlands and grasslands west of Kalispell.

Learn about bees
A Let’s Bee Friendly event is scheduled from 2 to 3 p.m. Sunday at Flathead Lake State Park at Wayfarers.
The ranger-guided program about Montana’s pollinators is geared for children ages 4 to 7. The cost is $4 per child, or $10 per family.
