Hellgate boys claim Western AA crown

It was all Missoula Hellgate in a 59-35 rout of Helena Capital in the Western AA Divisional championship boys basketball game at Glacier High School on Saturday evening.
Hellgate jumped out to a lead in the first quarter and led 34-11 by the half. Capital was held to single digit scoring until the fourth, where it outscored Hellgate 15-11.
Rollie Worster rose to the occasion for Hellgate, putting up 21 points and notching eight rebounds. Dylan Holst also had eight rebounds and scored 16 points.
Hellgate outrebounded Capital 42-27 and shot 46 percent from the field to Capital’s 25 percent.
Worster made all four of his free throws and Hellgate shot 70 percent at the charity stripe.
Trevor Swanson paced Capital with eight points.

Missoula Sentinel locked down the third seed for the state tournament with a thrilling win over Helena.
The score was tied six times and there were 10 lead changes throughout the game.
Alex Germer knocked down 20 points and four rebounds for Sentinel, who was also 9-for-16 at the free-throw line.
Sentinel also edged Helena in rebounds, 22-16.
Helena shot 55 percent from the field, Sentinel 48 percent.
Pierce Brown paced Helena with 15 points and Logan Brown scored 13.
Tony Frohlich-Fair added 10 points for Sentinel.

Missoula Sentinel shot out to a lead and never conceded as it defeated the Glacier Wolfpack to earn a spot at the state tournament.
Scott Malikie again put in a big game for Sentinel, leading all scorers with 19 points and adding six rebounds. Malikie shot 3-for-4 from the free-throw line.
As a team, Sentinel made 16 of 31 free throws and shot at an efficient 61 percent from the field.
Glacier struggled a bit from the field, shooting 38 percent.
Drew Engellant paced Glacier with 12 points and four rebounds. Bret Michaels nabbed a team-high five rebounds.

Alex Johnson’s double-double propelled Helena High to a 10-point victory over the Flathead Braves and advanced it to state.
Johnson scored 11 points and pulled down 11 rebounds for Helena, who pulled away from Flathead in the second half.
Pierce Brown led all scorers with 18 points.
Flathead outrebounded Helena, 34-31.
Helena scored 13 points in transition and 22 in the paint. Flathead had 20 points in the paint and none in transition.
Gabe Adams was Flathead’s top scorer with 12 points and grabbed eight rebounds. Seth Moon added 10 points, and Tannen Beyl had four rebounds.
