Kaye Hinman Adkins, 81

Kaye Hinman Adkins passed away peacefully on March 1, 2019, in Brighton, Colorado.

Kaye was born the second child to Henry Wallace “Mike” and Eloise Rose Hinman on Sept. 3, 1937, in Kalispell. She spent her early days in Somers, moving later to Kalispell. As a girl she loved to ride her horses Star and Gay.

She was a graduate of Flathead County High School in Kalispell and later attended Brigham Young University and the University of Montana, graduating with a degree in education.

While working as a teacher in Thompson Falls, she met and fell in love with James Olen Adkins. They were married on Aug. 22, 1958, and were married for 42 years.

Kaye was a kind, soft-spoken woman who loved to read and write. She particularly loved reading and writing about Montana history and the Indian tribes that inhabited the Western United States. She loved her family, which included her cats, friends, and she also loved plants, flowers and antiques.

Kaye is survived by her daughters, Tamara Kaye Dodd (Michael), Kimberly Ann Stark (Gene), Nicole Eileen Yorgason (Tyler), and Shanon Dee Everton (Cory); and her stepdaughters, Gail Juhnke (Dave) and Toni Desjardin. She also is survived by her 22 wonderful grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband Jim (2000), her son James Michael Adkins (2000), her granddaughter Xanthe Eloise Yorgason (2013), her parents and her sister.

Funeral services will be at 11 am. Monday, March 11, at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints meeting house, 1380 Whitefish Stage, Kalispell, MT 59901. A viewing will be held prior to services from 10 to 10:45 a.m. Interment will follow at C.E. Conrad Memorial Cemetery.
