The next Blueprint for Business Success, a Job Service Kalispell free speaker series, is Tuesday, March 19, with a focus on the challenges of staffing.

The program runs from noon to 1 p.m. at Flathead Valley Community College, Arts & Technology building, room 139.

Presenters are Maria Skonord, vice president of LC Staffing, and Jessica Wurm, marketing and communications specialist for LC Staffing. Skonord is an expert in human resource management, recruiting, and workforce planning and development.

Wurm has led LC Staffing’s targeted marketing plans, social media campaigns, and public relations strategies.

Young professionals look at opportunities of board membership

“How to Impact your Community as a Board Member” will be the subject of the next Flathead Area Young Professionals meeting on Wednesday, March 20, from 8 to 9 a.m. at the Kalispell Chamber of Commerce.

Shelby Rogala and Emily Flemming from the Montana Nonprofit Association will talk about involvement on nonprofit boards. Attendees will gain an understanding of intentions for board membership, a plan for joining a board and key insights to being a board member.

Focus on change at next Thinking Thursday

“Be the Change! Leading the Flathead” is the subject of the next Thinking Thursday at the Kalispell Chamber of Commerce from 8:30 to 10 a.m. Thursday, March 21.

The free event will feature Phil Quigley, founder of Quigley & Associates. Quigley will help identify skills for visionary leaders who can learn to welcome change.

Learn how to anticipate, embrace and implement disruptive change; identify the four phases of change, build support while overcoming organizational resistance, lead your organization to positive change and more.

Peer program brings business people together

Peerspectives, a joint venture of Montana West Economic Development and Flathead Valley Community College, is a peer-based program to help business owners accelerate growth.

The course will offer 10 four-hour roundtable sessions from April 2019 to March 2020, with trained facilitators who are experts in peer learning.

In this structured and professionally facilitated format, participants will work together toward a common goal each month by sharing ideas and obstacles, finding solutions to key issues, and helping each other stay accountable.

The cost is $1,000 for MWED members and $1,200 for nonmembers.

Evergreen Chamber sets monthly lunch

The Evergreen Chamber of Commerce is holding its monthly luncheon on Friday, March 15, from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Snappy Sport Senter’s Event Center.

Flathead County Sheriff Brian Heino and Undersheriff Wayne DuBois will be speaking. Cost is $10 for lunch.

State tourism conference in Butte in April

The Governor’s Conference on Tourism and Recreation is April 14-16 in Butte.

Former Travel Channel host Samantha Brown, author and marketing expert Kelly McDonald and U.S. Travel Association executive Jonathan Grella will be keynote speakers.

Special guest speakers include Gov. Steve Bullock, Lt. Gov. Mike Cooney and Yellowstone National Park Superintendent Cam Sholly.

The event also includes breakout sessions in destination development, management and marketing. The conference usually attracts around 400 attendees.

Conference registration is $219 through March 31 and includes all meals and conference functions.

Pablo workshops cover insurance, bookkeeping

Robert Much, a procurement specialist with the Helena field office of the Native American Development Corporation Procurement Technical Assistance Center, will conduct two workshops in Pablo.

An insurance and bonding workshop is Tuesday, March 19, from 6 to 8 p.m. at the CSKT Computer Training Room in the lower level of the Old Tribal Complex in Pablo. It will cover insurance for risk and the Small Business Administration surety bond guarantee program.

Much will lead a bookkeeping and independent contractor workshop on Wednesday, March 20, from 6 to 8 p.m. This workshop will look at bookkeeping basics and IRS rules for independent contractor status.

Robert will also be available on March 19 from 1 to 4:30 p.m. and March 20 from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. for government contracting counseling assistance.

If you are interested in doing business with the government and want assistance obtaining your System for Award Management registration, obtaining a DUNS number and registering with the SBA website, Much will be available for meetings at Sovereign Leasing & Financing on March 19-20.

Flathead Electric holds annual meeting

All Flathead Electric Cooperative members are invited to attend the cooperative’s 82nd Annual Members Meeting on Saturday, March 16, at Canvas Church, 255 Summit Ridge in Kalispell.

Registration and breakfast begin at 8:30 a.m., followed by entertainment with local 1950s band Zino and the Bel Aires at 9 a.m.

The business meeting will start at 10 a.m. and adjourn by noon. Child care will be available. Members will learn about the financial stability of the co-op and Flathead Electric’s continued focus on power supply, rates, growing technologies and more. They will also hear from those running for Board of Trustee positions.

Prize drawings include the grand prize of a $500 energy-bill credit. Four $500 scholarships will also be awarded to high school seniors planning to enroll at an in-state college or university.

To be eligible for scholarships, the student’s parent or guardian must be a member of Flathead Electric and the student must be at the meeting to win.
