Refurbished Salvation Army Thrift Store to reopen

The Salvation Army in Kalispell will have a grand reopening beginning at noon today.

Hours are noon to 6 p.m. today and 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday.

The store was temporarily closed for several weeks for renovations. A ribbon-cutting celebration will be attended by the Salvation Army Divisional Comm. Lt. Col. Bill Dickinson and Gen. Secretary Capt. Jonathan Harvey, both from Seattle.

The reopening will feature over 15,000 recently donated items of clothing and hundreds of variety items all housed in the newly painted and organized retail section. The Thrift Store will also begin to sell new furniture along with the new beds previously sold. Examples will be on-site to view and order.

“We have a strong tradition of operating a thrift store in Kalispell. It’s a popular shopping destination, and the proceeds from the items sold support Salvation Army services to local families in need,” said Major Bill Lum, Corps officer. “But the store has operated for nearly two decades and it was time for some updates, a refreshed look and better shopping experience.”

The building, located at 1500 S. Main St., Kalispell, is owned by the Salvation Army. Renovations included a full interior repainting, flooring and tiling updates, expanded new and recently donated furniture sections, a book library, and reorganization of the retail floor layout. Donations of gently used furniture, clothing, household goods will continue to be accepted.

Donation days and times are Monday through Saturday, 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.

The renovation will also include the transition of the name of the store to “The Salvation Army Family Thrift Store,, expect new signs later this spring.

Established in 1895, the Salvation Army in Kalispell provides social services to families in need. Among the programs offered are meal program, food bank, rent and utility assistance, and emergency disaster services. Last year the Kalispell organization served more than 2,200 individuals in the community.
