Glacier Park update: Road open to Avalanche
Vehicles can now travel the 15.5 miles of the Going-to-the-Sun Road in Glacier National Park from the west entrance to Avalanche as crews continue to make progress clearing the full road of snow.
This section of road opened Tuesday.
Plows on Thursday were working in the Triple Arches area on the west side of Logan Pass.
On the road’s east side, visitors can drive from the St. Mary entrance to Rising Sun. East-side plows were at Siyeh Bend.
The section of the Going-to-the-Sun road between Rising Sun and Avalanche remains closed. The earliest date the road’s upper portion will open is June 22 because of pavement preservation work planned in the park.
The hiker/biker closure on the west side of Going-to-the-Sun Road is located at Packers Roost, 11 miles past the vehicle closure. On the east side the hiker/biker closure is at Rising Sun.
Otherwise, Camas Road, Many Glacier Road and Chief Mountain Road are open.
