Ferndale yard sale

The Ferndale Sewing Circle is having a yard sale this weekend to raise money for a new heating system for the center.

Sale hours are 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. today and Saturday.

The Ferndale Sewing Center is located on South Ferndale Drive, across Montana 209 from the Ferndale Fire Hall.

Big Brothers/Big Sisters fundraiser

Daybreak Rotary is sponsoring a fundraiser for Big Brothers/Big Sisters.

From 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. today at Kalispell Ford, for every test drive taken of a new Ford, Ford Motor Co. will donate $20, up to $6,000 to the nonprofit organization.

Kalispell Ford is located at 2000 Rose Crossing.

Stamp Out Hunger

The National Association of Letter Carriers conducts its 27th annual Stamp Out Hunger Food Drive Saturday. The food drive has become the nation’s largest one-day campaign to collect food for distribution to needy families.

To donate, leave non-perishable food donations in a bag near your mailbox Saturday before your letter carrier arrives. Food collected during the drive will be delivered to local community churches, food banks and food pantries for distribution.

All non-perishable donations are welcome. High protein foods such as canned tuna, salmon, beans and peanut butter are most needed. Canned fruits and vegetables, whole grain, low sugar cereals, macaroni and cheese dinners and 100 percent fruit juice are also needed.

Glacier shuttle

Glacier National Park’s spring weekend hiker and biker shuttle service starts Saturday.

The hiker-biker shuttle will run every 20 minutes from Apgar Visitor Center on Saturdays and Sundays between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m., and on May 27 (Memorial Day). Shuttles, equipped with bicycle trailers, will stop at Lake McDonald Lodge and Avalanche Creek (once open to motor vehicle traffic).

The fare-free weekend-only shuttle will operate until the full length of the Going-to-the-Sun Road opens to motor vehicles.

Donations to the Glacier National Park Conservancy support the spring shuttle service and volunteer bike patrol unit.

‘Megafires’ documentary

The documentary “Era of Megafires” will be shown at 6 p.m. Saturday in the West Valley School gym, in Kalispell. The one-hour video addresses fire history, prescribed fire, home assessments, fire regimes, mechanical treatments and more. A question and answer session with local emergency personnel will follow the film.

There will also be door prizes and a chain-saw raffle.

Forestry Expo

The 30th annual Family Forestry Expo takes place from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday at the Trumbull Creek Educational Forest, located 2 miles north of the junction of U.S. 2 East and Montana 40, between Whitefish and Columbia Falls (behind Blue Moon).

Families are welcome to attend and admission is free.

There will be mule string packing and logging demonstrations at 10:30 a.m. and 1:30 p.m., a forest walk with educational stations, and other hands-on activities. Browse the exhibit tent and enjoy a free logging camp lunch from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Lone Pine hike

On Saturday, May 11, from 10 to 11:30 a.m., learn about local flora from Lone Pine State Park staff on a 2-mile guided hike. The cost is $4 for hikers 13 and older; 12 and younger are free. Registration is required and space is limited. Call 755-2706, ext. 0, to reserve your spot.

Weekend concerts

- The Crown of the Continent Choir has its Season Finale concert at 7:30 p.m. Saturday at the O’Shaughnessy Center in Whitefish. Doors open at 6:30 p.m. Special guests include Betsy Finch and Mike Eldred.

- Wai Mizutani and Friends perform a benefit concert at 3 p.m. Sunday at the Community United Methodist Church, 750 Electric Ave., in Bigfork. Refreshments will be available following the concert. Proceeds go to the Bigfork Food Bank.

- Classical violinist Idara Aguinaga will give a Mother’s Day concert performing world famous masterpieces from Dvorak, Sibelilus, Massenet and more at 3 p.m. Sunday at Bethlehem Lutheran Church, 603 S.
