Glacier Park plows reach Logan Pass
Plow crews clearing the west side of Going-to-the-Sun Road in Glacier National Park have reached Logan Pass, the park announced Saturday.
Crews were working in the Oberlin Bend area late last week and made an initial swipe to the 6,647-foot pass.
Webcam images show a deep snowpack still covering the visitor center area. A Snotel site at 6,300 feet in elevation on nearby Flattop Mountain showed a snow depth of 62 inches on Saturday.
Plows on the east side of the road are reported to be in the Siyeh Bend area.
While the scenic highway is clear to the pass, vehicle travel to that point will be prohibited through at least June 22 due to road maintenance.
Currently 29 miles of the Going-to-the-Sun Road are
Visitors can drive 15.5 miles from the West Entrance to Avalanche, and 13.5 miles from the St. Mary Entrance to Jackson Glacier Overlook.
A hiker/biker closure on the west side of the Sun Road is located at The Loop, 8 miles past the vehicle closure.
On the east side there is currently no hiker biker access past the vehicle closure when the road crew is working.
Park officials warned visitors Friday about heightened avalanche danger along the Sun Road corridor this weekend. Plow crews and visitors have encountered multiple avalanches crossing areas already plowed in the last two weeks, particularly in the Triple Arches area.
