Whitefish, Bigfork win as season winds down

LIBBY — Seven different players helped the Whitefish Bulldogs beat the Libby Loggers 12-2 in its final regular season game in Northern A soccer.

Whitefish heads into the postseason unbeaten at 12-0.

Riley Arendt scored a hat trick for Whitefish and Casey Schneider had two goals and an assist.

Chase Sabin scored a goal and assisted on two goals.

Glacier 2, Helena Capital 2

HELENA — Glacier (5-3-4) tied with Helena Capital a day after a one-goal win at Helena High.

“Our team fought hard and it showed in the end result,” senior Micah Heil said. “It’s tough to play back to back games but our team persevered and proved that we have what it takes to grind and get a result against one of the best teams in the state.” 

The Wolfpack has two Western AA games left before playoffs.

BIGFORK — The Valkyries finished their season with a big win over Polson (4-8 overall, 3-5 conference) at Bigfork High School.

Brette Guenzler scored both Bigfork (2-10, 2-6) goals.

“Ashton McAnally was a standout in midfield,” Bigfork coach Tim Guenzler said. “Nya Schara anchored the back line. To win against a team like Polson was a big win for our program.”

Glacier 4, Helena Capital 0

HELENA — Glacier rebounded from a loss on Friday night to shut out Helena Capital on Saturday.

“Even after a tough loss against Helena High we proved that we can come out strong against Capital,” senior Emma Paulson said. “It was demonstrated that we truly wanted this win throughout our entire team.”

Glacier is 8-3-1 in Western AA with two games left in the regular season slate.

Madison Becker scored two goals.

“I’m so proud of our team for coming out today and wanting to perform,” senior goalkeeper Sophie Smith said. “I appreciated the hard work put in by my defensive line in shutting down Capital’s offense.”
