Mary Susan 'Suzy' Como, 73

| September 5, 2019 9:53 AM

The angels in heaven decided Monday, Sept. 2, 2019, it was time to deliver our beautiful, loving wife ( Bucky), mother( Mom), grandmother (Gramsy), great-grandma (Grammy) to her eternal resting place in heaven. She took her last breath surrounded by the family she loved so dearly, a woman that gave her heart and soul to everyone she ever encountered.

She was born May 22, 1946, to Germain and Martha Broeckert in Watertown, Minnesota. She was the second of 10 children. At the young age of 18, her dad managed a restaurant and while visiting him, a young cook working his way through college, noticed her beauty and kindness. He asked Germain’s permission to date her, and was told, “If you so much as talk to my daughter I will kill you,” and so the love story began. The young cook, Gary Como, was asked by her dad one day if he would help her move; Gary’s only stipulation was she would go on a date with him. They married July 3, 1965, and their love carried them through life for 54 years, having three children, Tami, Gary Jr, and Clint. They left Minnesota in 1976, moved to Missoula and never looked back, and so their adventure in this beautiful state led them to Kalispell.

Known as Sue or Suzy, she worked as a certified nursing assistant, mostly at Brendan House. Her gentleness and compassion for life was felt by all. She was a devout Catholic, and lived her life always helping others. She had many friends, but her family was her life. She always was there to listen when needed, never judgmental, and offered her advice with wisdom. Many hours were spent with the girls in the family, staying up late or having sleepovers, watching the LMN channel, eating popcorn or ice cream. Simple things like this is what made this wonderful woman so special to all of us. Her time with our family was priceless, and will ever be in our hearts and minds forever.

Some of the people most important in her life were her husband Gary Como, daughter Tami, and Mike Wiherski, granddaughter Mary and Ben Skeim, great-grandchildren Avery and Hendrix, granddaughter Kimmy and Weston Willard, great-granddaughter Claire, grandson Michael Wiherski, son Gary Jr., Rachel Como, grandson Corey, Taylor, great-grandson Tristan and Camdyn, granddaughters Annabel and Marian, son Clint, Bridgette Como, grandsons Austin, Brenden, Jarrett and Dean.

She was preceded in death by her sister Cecilia Broeckert, parents Germain and Martha Broeckert, granddaughter Kelli Wiherski, sisters Kathy Bacon and Pam Thompson, and grandson Tristan Como. She is also is survived by sisters Monica Weber, Marcy Oakland and Marge Reynolds, and brothers Jerry, Bill and Mike Broeckert and their families.

The family thanks all the staff at Home Options Hospice, especially Randy, for their excellent care.

The wake will be at Columbia Falls Mortuary Thursday, Sept. 5, with viewing from 5 to 7 p.m. followed by the rosary. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Friday, Sept. 6, at St. Richard Catholic Church in Columbia Falls, followed by burial at St. Richard Catholic cemetery, and luncheon at St. Richard Catholic Church. All are welcome to celebrate her life. Flowers and condolences can also be sent to both places.

This amazing woman is in heaven now; we know she got there in a Ford, and is watching “Walker Texas Ranger,” movies that made her cry on the LMN channel, and getting loud while cheering for the Seattle Seahawks winning every game. We love you and your life will always be remembered by the family who loved you immensely.

Columbia Mortuary in Columbia Falls is caring for the family.
