Forest project proposed in Woods Bay

In an effort to improve public safety and resiliency to insects in the Bigfork area, Montana Fish, Wildlife and Parks is proposing forest management projects at fishing access sites in Woods Bay and Horseshoe Lake.

The treatments to the sites would involve the removal of primarily conifer trees for the purpose of mitigating hazard trees in developed areas, reducing hazardous fuels in the wildland urban interface, and increasing resiliency to insects and diseases, according to a press release.

If approved by the Fish and Wildlife Commission, the work would begin in November.

Fish, Wildlife and Parks is accepting public comment on the proposal through Sept. 30. Any comments can be mailed to Fish, Wildlife and Parks Region 1 at 490 N.
