Wolfpack Theatre opens season with 'Cyrano'
Embark on a glorious romance steeped in gorgeous, witty language and exquisitely painful, unrequited love as the Wolfpack Theatre Company presents “Cyrano de Bergerac” Sept. 17, 18 and 19. Curtain time is 6:33 p.m. in the Wolfpack Theatre at Glacier High School.
Tickets are available at the GHS Main Office and Photo Video Plus. Ticket prices are $7 for adults and $5 for children, students and senior citizens. Any remaining tickets will also be sold at the door.
Cyrano is fierce. He pretty much has it all … he’s a fearless soldier and a remarkable swordsman, a philosopher and a poet. He is lavishly articulate and loyal to a fault. But when appraising his own wonderful qualities and mastering his personal confidence, he can’t quite see his value past the end of his nose.
He is also a man in love. Of course, the object of his affection, Roxane, is in love with someone else — the handsome, young Christian. When Christian is assigned to Cyrano’s platoon, Roxane asks Cyrano to protect Christian. And when Christian, in turn, requests Cyrano to help him court Roxane, Cyrano finds himself in the painful gap between loyalty and love.
“Cyrano is a classic that students don’t know anymore, which is just sad!” said “Cyrano” director and director of Wolfpack Theatre Company, Ivanna Fritz. “I love the theme of this play. Everyone has had something about themselves that they don’t like at some point in their lives. This play gives us a moment to reflect and decide how we want to be seen and what really matters about love.
“This is a classic piece of literature and I love it because it makes you think and feel and it should be discussed. We want people to talk after the show and really make some judgments — who is justified in their deceptions, who needs to know and when. We hope they will talk about beauty and love and deception.”
“Cyrano de Bergerac” was written 1897 by French poet and dramatist Edmond Rostand, and has been translated into countless languages and recreated across a variety of art forms. This presentation of “Cyrano” is the first of nine productions slated for the 2019-2020 Wolfpack Theatre season.
“By chance, we have nine seniors, eight juniors, seven sophomores, and six freshman,” Fritz said. “They are committed students who took a risk to do the first show of the year. We have had excellent discussions and they all worked feverishly to learn lines. They are supportive of their cast and I feel we are off to one of our best starts in Wolfpack Theatre.”
The cast of Cyrano de Bergerac includes Suzanne Loviska, Asher Robinson, Isaac Schroeder, Brooklynn Pitts, Dresden Allred, Ty Espeseth, Ashley Bruce, Derek Smith, Erik Kalvig, Fiona Fuller, Piper Hadley, Sydney Fletcher, Alexa Wilton, Ellie Haag, Kaelin Holt, Teslyn Hartman, Natalie Knuffke, Landon Mumm, Avrey Mele, John Paul Koch-Ford and Christopher Breese as Cyrano.
Supporting the cast behind the scenes is the technical crew, including Sierra Riley, Tylin Hartman, Alyssa Roberts, Mac Adkins, Xavier Stout, Xander Stout, Ella Nielsen, Jaclyn Green and Lauren Kohler.
