Glacier Symphony showcases young talent in season opener
The Glacier Symphony announces the start of its 37th season themed “The Music Makers.”
To open the 2019-2020 season, Maestro John Zoltek has invited the next generation of talented musicians to come perform with and solo with the Glacier Symphony.
The performance, titled “Equinox Music: Generation Next!” celebrates the talents of classical musicians, ages 14 to 20, and features five awardees from the recent 2019 Montana Association of Symphony Orchestra’s (MASO) Young Artist Competition. Each of the young musicians competed for and earned the opportunity to perform in person for a panel of distinguished judges at the Music Department at Montana State University in Bozeman last January.
The five will be featured as soloists with the symphony in a variety of concerto movements from the Classical, Romantic and 20th Century repertoire by Chausson, Haydn, Kabalevsky, Mendelssohn and Rachmaninoff.
Zoltek will introduce and speak with each soloist prior to their performance, giving the audience insight into these young musicians and their musical interests.
The orchestra will also perform popular selections from Bizet’s opera “Carmen.”
Soloists include Rosie Weiss, violin (Billings); Cade Fiddamen, violin (Bozeman); Tanner Jorden, piano (Billings); Tristan Hernandez, cello (Bozeman); and Benjamin Hodson, piano (Great Falls).
This will be a rare opportunity to hear these accomplished young musicians in action with the orchestra.
