Flu-shot clinic Wednesday at fairgrounds

The Flathead City-County Health Department’s annual flu clinic takes place from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 2, at the Flathead County Fairgrounds.

The Health Department recommends that everyone 6 months or older gets a flu shot, but stresses it is especially important for high-risk groups, including people 65 or older; children younger than 5; people with certain chronic health conditions including asthma and diabetes; and pregnant women.

“We look forward to this event every year because it allows us the opportunity to get out into the community to administer as many flu vaccinations as possible,” Lisa Dennison, the county supervisor of Infectious Disease Prevention and Control, said in a press release.

The flu vaccination is best way to prevent getting the flu, according to the Health Department, and it is important to get vaccinated early. It takes up to two weeks after vaccination for the vaccine to provide protection against the flu.

Additional services at the clinic include a drive-up vaccine service for those with special needs or those who cannot get out of their vehicles. Most insurance plans, Medicaid and Medicare are accepted, and children will not be refused a vaccine if they are unable to pay.
