Manaker to take over Glacier golf teams
Glacier High School’s search for a golf coach has ended with the selection of Doug Manaker, athletic director Mark Dennehy announced this week.
Manaker, 52, has been a social studies and religion teacher at St. Matthew’s Catholic School as well as being the radio voice for Glacier basketball and football games.
He’s also been a club professional, having worked first as an assistant and then as the club pro in Michigan for eight years.
“Doug is Wolfpack through and through and will bring great enthusiasm and a passion for the game of golf,” Dennehy said in a release.
Manaker said he was excited for the job.
“My son, Sam, plays,” he began. “He’s going to be a senior. I know we have a lot of good returning players – we had a strong nucleus last year that was young. There are a couple senior leaders and then a lot of youth.
“I’m looking forward to it, I’m really excited. I’m confidence we can continue to do what Glacier’s done in the past, because there is a great tradition there.”
Class AA schools play golf in the fall; practices begin mid-August. Glacier’s boys were fifth at the last two state tournaments, and were state champions in 2012. The girls trended up to ninth in 2018 and had strong teams led by two-time medalist Teigan Avery, finishing second in 2012 and 2015.
