Wolfpack swimmers take 2nd at Missoula meet

MISSOULA — The Glacier Wolfpack swim teams both placed second at last weekend’s five-team Missoula County Public School swim meet.

The Wolfpack boys scored 393, just four points behind first place Missoula Sentinel. The Flathead boys placed third with 246 points. Missoula Hellgate won the girls’ meet at 502 points. Glacier was second with 451 and Missoula Sentinel third at 357.

Individually, Glacier’s Eden Flake was a double winner in the 200 IM and 100 breaststroke and Flathead’s Lily Milner won the 50 freestyle and the 100 backstroke.

“(Milner) has been swimming year round for a long time. Her hard work is really paying off. She’s only a sophomore, but Division 1 schools will be reaching out to her in the next year,” said Flathead/Glacier coach Karen Bouda.

As for Flake, “Eden is every coach’s dream. She can swim anything you ask her to swim. She’s got five state qualifying times and she has the potential to win or place top three in many events,” the coach said.

Other placers among the girls were Glacier’s Caroline Dye, second in the 200 freestyle and third in the 50 freestyle, Glacier’s Mady Toren, third in the 200 IM, and Megan Anderson, third in the 500 freestyle. The 200 and 400 freestyle relay teams also came in second.

Among the boys, Flathead sophomore Ayden Strobbe-Barry placed second in both the 50 and 100 freestyle races.

Glacier sophomore Drew Bouda won the 500 freestyle.

“Drew is willing and able to swim the distance events and actually wishes the mile was a high school event,” the coach smiled.

Glacier sophomore Derek Smith was second in the 100 backstroke and senior Keigan Knutson was third in the 100 breaststroke.
