Valkyries battle it out on the court, XC finishes strong

Valkyries 1 - Loyola 3

(17-25, 25-16, 22-25, 18-25)

The Valkyries volleyball team bounced back from a first set loss to take the second set at home against Loyola Thursday, but the Breakers took the last two sets to earn the victory. With the loss, the Vals drop to 0-2 early in the season. Mackenzie Holton had nine of the Vals 19 assists in the contest while Jessa Newton added eight. Myranda Gray led with five of the team’s 27 kills in a well-balanced offensive attack while Jessica Frey had four of the team’s six blocks. Gray had 17 of the Vals’ 59 digs and Newton recorded seven of the team’s 13 aces. Next up, the Vals host Anaconda Friday.

Cross Country

The Vikings runners we in action at the Cut Bank Time Trials, where Elliot Sanford took sixth with a time of 19:33, Colton Ballard was right behind in seventh with a time of 19:34, Colton Wroble was 13th at 20:51 and Elijah Albert was 22nd with a time of 24:36. For the Valkyries, Grace Stewart earned third with a time of 22:33 while Tabitha Raymond was fifth at 22:43. The teams will be in action again Friday at 2 p.m. as they run at the Flathead Invitational at Rebecca Farm.
