Track team racks up personal records, state qualifiers

The Vikings and Valkyries track teams added four to their list of state qualifiers and recorded several new PRs last week as the teams were in action at the Western ABC Top-10 meet in Hamilton Tuesday and the KLH Memorial Meet in Missoula Saturday.

Wyatt Duke was the top finisher for the Vikings at Hamilton Tuesday as he won the high jump by clearing 6 feet, 4 inches while Seth Osborne set a PR and moved into fourth in the Class B state standings by clearing 12 feet, 6 inches in the pole vault. Osborne finished second in the event.

Jack Jensen was third in the 1,600 meter race with a time of 4:42.17, Isak Epperly took third in the 110 hurdles with a time of 16.17 seconds and Cormac Benn was third in the long jump with a leap of 20 feet, 8.25 inches.

Benn was also fourth in the high jump, clearing a height of 5 feet, 10 inches, while Shelton Woll was fourth in the pole vault as he cleared 12 feet to tie his PR.

Levi Taylor was fifth in the high jump as he also cleared 5 feet, 10 inches while Elliot sanford took 10th at 5 feet, 6 inches. Joseph Farrier was seventh in the 100 meter dash with a time of 11.70 seconds and Wyatt Duke took seventh in the 110 hurdles with a personal best time of 16.51 seconds.

The 4X100 relay team of Benn, George Bucklin, Farrier and Noah Kinslow was fourth with a time of 44.95 seconds while the 4X400 relay team of Jackson Abney, Benn, Wyatt Johnson and Maddox Mater took ninth.

For the Valkyries, the 4X100 relay team of Jessy Frey, Afton Lambrecht, Chloe Raats and Audrey Buenz qualified for state with a third place finish in a time of 52.02 seconds while the 4X400 relay team of Buenz, Raats, Danika Bucklin and Coralyn Shillam improved on their season best with a time of 4:17:52.

Allie Reichner took fifth in the pole vault as she cleared 8 feet while Olivia Ellison was sixth in the discus with a new PR toss of 107 feet, 9 inches. Raats took seventh in the 400 while Shillam was eighth, Ellison was ninth in the shot put and Buenz took 10th in the 100 meter dash.

The Vikings won four events in Missoula Saturday on their way to winning the KLH Memorial Meet.

Jensen qualified for state in the 1,600 as he won the race with a new PR time of 4:37, Benn won the long jump with a leap of 21 feet, Osborne cleared 12 feet to win the pole vault and the 4X100 relay team won with a time of 45.08 seconds.

Other top-3 finishers for the Vikings included Johnson, who was second in the 300 hurdles, Woll and Wyatt Herd, who tied for second in the pole vault by clearing 11 feet, 6 inches, and Taylor, who was third in the triple jump with a new PR of 39 feet, 7 inches. Benn was also second in the high jump and triple jump.

The Valkyries earned seventh as a team Saturday as Ashlyn Savik set PRs in the 100 and 300 hurdles. Savik was second in the 300 hurdles with a time of 52.38 seconds and third in the 100 hurdles at 17.36 seconds.

Raats also set a new PR in the 200 with a time of 28.14 seconds to finish third and Scout Nadeau was third in the discus with a toss of 92 feet, 8 inches.

Both teams will be in action at Eureka Saturday as the Lions host the District Track Meet.

In tennis action, Vikings and Valkyries were at Valley Christian, where they boys won the meet 3-2 and girls earned a 3-3 tie.

Callie Martinz, Juniper Johnson and Dana Saari all won their singles matchups for the Valkyries while Justus West and Blane Barrows won for the Vikings. The doubles team of Logan Livingston and Landen Livingston also picked up victory.
