Vikings wrestlers take sixth at Bob Kinney Classic in Superior
The Vikings wrestlers compiled 90 points to earn sixth as the Bigfork boys were in action at the Bob Kinney Classic in Superior over the weekend.
Dale Relyea had the top finish for the Vikings, earning second in the 182-pount division.
Relyea opened the tournament with by pinning Libby’s Matthew Neimi in 4:23 in the quarterfinals before earning a 5-1 decision over Florence-Carlton’s Sean laron in the semifinals.
Florence-Carlton’s Jared Weaver pinned Relyea in 3:20 in the title match.
Four Vikings earned fourth-place finishes, including Angus Anderson (132), Wyatt Elwell (160), Lyrik Fainter (103) and Evan Tidwell (170).
Anderson went 4-2 at the tournament, earning all four wins via pin, including one in 17 seconds against Powell County’s Orrin Hansen in the second consolation round.
Anderson took on Drew Carey of Plains/Hot Springs in the third-place match, but was forced to withdraw due to injury.
Ewell also went 4-2 and advanced to the third-place match before falling to Whitefish’s Henry Bennetts via major decision, 14-0.
Fainter went 2-2, including pinning Jaden Bewick of Thompson Falls in 14 seconds in the first consolation round and Chase Davis of Corvallis in 21 seconds in the following round.
Tidwell won his first two matches with pins in 1:23 in both bouts before falling to Mission/Charlo’s Canyon Sargent in the semifinals.
Tidwell pinned Brenden Vanderwall of Plains/Hot Springs in 2:54 in the consolation semifinals before falling to Bodee Davis of Corvallis via 5-2 decision in the third-place match.
The Vikings were in action at Thompson Falls after press time Tuesday and will be at Florence-Carlton Thursday and Eureka Saturday.
