Area applicants sought for technical/vocational scholarships

| April 5, 2023 10:15 AM

The Bigfork Ladies Service Club is searching for applicants for their annual technical/vocational education scholarship.

Open to students planning to attend vocational, technical or trade schools, multiple scholarships are available to students with Bigfork addresses who will graduate this year or have graduated in the past three years.

Examples of acceptable vocations include massage therapy, diesel or automotive programs, cosmetology, journeyman or lineman programs, dental hygienist, veterinary technician, pharmacy tech, culinary school, welding and many more.

For the Bigfork Ladies Service Club, the scholarships are a way to give assistance to students who may have been overlooked by other scholarship programs.

“We haven’t stressed vocational and technicals skills in the past the way we should have. These are skills that are very important everywhere, not only in Montana,” organizer Annette Marsh said. “We want to give students with these kinds of skills the opportunity to pursue their goals.”

While the club gave out four scholarships for a total of $5,000 last year, new donations will allow the organization to award $9,000 this year.

According to Marsh, only four applications have been received so far.

Applications require a list of classes taken to support career goals, a two-page essay and a written reference from a non-family member.

Applications are due by April 15.
