Vikings to open Class A football schedule in Polson Friday
After seeing success in the playoffs the past two years, the Vikings football team will make the leap to Class A this season, where they will open on the road against the Polson Pirates Friday.
The Vikings are coming off a 2022 campaign that saw the team go 10-1, their lone loss coming to Loyola in the state semifinal.
Bigfork was hit hard by graduation, losing 12 players, but the Vikings 11 players for their senior season, including quarterback Tristen Herd, running back Wyatt Johnson, tight end Eli Thorness and the wide receiver duo of Wyatt Barnes and Cole Knopik.
Polson is coming off a 2022 season in which the Pirates went 9-1, earning the Northwestern A Conference Title before winning a second-round playoff game against Laurel.
The Pirates season ended with a 49-32 loss to eventual Class A champion Fergus in the state semifinal.
Kickoff is set for 7 p.m. in Polson.
The Vikings’ home schedule opens with a game against Ronan next week before the teams travels to face Hamilton Sept. 8.
