Braeden Gunlock scores 1,000th point in win over Dillon
Bigfork’s Braeden Gunlock joined an elite club Saturday evening as she scored her 1,000th point during the Valkyries’ 52-32 win over Dillon at the Western A Tip Off in Frenchtown.
Sitting at 999 points, Gunlock pulled up for a mid-range jumper late in the fourth quarter to push her varsity career total to 1,001 points.
While the crowd exploded with cheers, head coach (and Braeden’s mother) Cortnee Gunlock had no idea that jumper was the one.
“I actually did not know that shot was her 1,000th point,” she said. “I figured it out pretty quickly when the crowd went wild. When we subbed her out, that’s when it hit me.”
Braeden is the second Valkyrie in the past two season’s to reach the 1,000 point mark. Emma Berreth did it as a senior in 2022.
“When I saw Emma score her 1,000th point, I thought to myself that I would really like to do that in my junior year,” Braeden said. “I never thought it would be this early in my junior year, though. It is super exciting.”
With the milestone behind her, Braeden says she just wants to keep on playing and looks forward to the next milestone.
“It felt just like any other basket. Honestly, points are just points. It’s just fun to be able to go out there and play and it doesn’t really matter how many points I score.”
