Vikings win last four heading into district tourney

The Vikings will enter the postseason on a four game winning streak after downing Polson and Thompson Falls last week to finish the regular season 15-3.

Playing without senior Isak Epperly, who is recovering from a twisted ankle suffered in practice, the Vikings got past the Pirates 58-43 Feb. 7 before closing out the regular season with a 60-32 against the Blue Hawks in Thompson Falls Thursday.

Nick Walker put in five threes and scored 17 of his game-high 23 points in the first half against Polson Feb. 7 and added 12 rebounds in the win as Bigfork cruised past the Northwest A opponent.

Bigfork turned 16 offensive rebounds into 15 points and out-rebounded the Pirates 41-34 in the win while putting in six of their seven free throw attempts.

A steady offensive attack kept the Vikings on top throughout the contest as Polson led 34-24 at halftime before outscoring the Pirates 24-21 in the second half.

Along with Walker’s 23 points, Wyatt Johnson and Jack Jensen also scored in double figures as Johnson had 13 points, four assists and three steals while Jensen finished with 11 points, four assists and two thefts.

Eli Thorness had nine points and added six rebounds, Landon Byerman scored two and Bryce Gilliard pulled down nine rebounds in the win.

The Vikings got 23 points from their bench and used 16 assists and 15 steals to cruise past the Blue Hawks in Thompson Falls Thursday, 60-32.

Johnson scored 11 of his game-high 21 points in the second quarter and finished with eight rebounds and three assists as the Vikings jumped out to a 27-6 halftime lead in the victory.

Walker finished with 10 points and four rebounds, Thorness had nine points, six rebounds, five steals and three assists and Byerman scored seven along with five rebounds.

Jensen scored six points to go along with five assists, three steals and three rebounds while Gilliard scored five points and Quinn Herring had two.

The Vikings will open the District 7B Tournament in Eureka at 2 p.m. Friday as they face the winner between Thompson Falls and Troy.

The championship game will be Saturday at 5:15 p.m.
