Vikings wrestlers compete at state tournament
Evan Tidwell at the top finish for the Vikings over the weekend as Bigfork’s wrestlers combined to go 3-12 at the state championships in Billings.
Tidwell (170) picked up three points for the Vikings by pinning Shepherd’s Wyatt Beddes in 2:45 in the first round of the consolation bracket after dropping a 6-3 decision to Colstrip’s Trevin Bradley in the opening round.
Tidwell was pinned by Mission/Charlo’s Canyon Sargent in the second round of consolation action.
Felix Zambergs (205) fell to Whitehall’s Leo Scafani in the opening round but earned the Vikings a point in the first round of the consolation bracket with a 7-1 decision over Fort Benton’s Gavin Schmele.
Zambergs was pinned by Eureka’s Colynn Johnson in the second consolation round.
Wyatt Elwell (152) dropped a 10-4 decision to Great Falls Central’s Brodie Ober in the opening round but bounced back to earn a 6-4 decision over Chinook’s Walter Schoen in the second round before falling to Colstrip’s Zaden Heck in the second consolation round.
Michael McCarty (138), Diego Rodriguez (113) and Lyrik Fainter (103) all came up short in two matches at the tourney.
