Local nonprofits offering free tours of Owen Sowerwine
For anyone interested in exploring a wild community gem just outside of Kalispell, free tours of Owen Sowerwine are being offered by Flathead Land Trust, Flathead Audubon and The Flathead Lakers.
Stunning views of the Stillwater River, a myriad of birds, plants and trees, and perhaps a peek at some of the wildlife that calls this area home will be some of the highlights. All are welcome! Three types of tours are offered – birding, walking and kayak tours. A bird expert from Flathead Audubon will spotlight birds that utilize the area on the birding tours, where participants can learn their sounds and life histories.
During the walking tours, participants will take a gentle, flat 1-mile stroll to learn from partners from the Flathead Lakers, Flathead Audubon and/or Flathead Biological Station about the outstanding ecological features of Owen Sowerwine. The kayak tour will offer a way to view some of the islands and braids of the Stillwater River, and learn about the ecology of the area. Tours are free to the public.
