Vals grab critical third seed for Divisionals

The Valkyries went into last Tuesday’s volleyball match at Polson needing a win to secure a guaranteed spot in this weekend’s Western A Divisional Tournament and they got just that as they downed the Lady Pirates in five sets.

Bigfork got 14 kills from Ava Davey and 11 more from Sophia Ledingham as they got the win they needed, 25-21, 20-25, 25-22, 11-25, 15-6.

Tessa Troyer finished with 25 digs for the Vals while Davey added 24 Gracie Saari had 16 and Piper Lee finished with 10 while Taylor Howlett recorded 37 of the team’s 42 assists.

Howlett, Lee and Ledigham all had blocks in the win while Saari, Lee, Troyer and Cassy Schlicht all served aces.

With the win, the Vals will enter the Divisional Tournament at Polson Thursday as the No. 3 seed from the Northwest. They will open the tournament against Southwest No. 2 seed Dillon at 4 p.m.
