Four Vikings named to All-State football team
The Vikings placed four players on the Class A All-State football team and received nine All-Conference selections as Montana’s postseason awards were announced last week.
Seniors Eli Thorness (tight end), Tristen Herd (defensive back) and Wyatt Johnson (running back) were each named to the All-State team along with junior offensive lineman Henry Carlson.
Thorness, Johnson, and Carlson were also named to the Western A All-Conference offensive first team while Herd was a first-team selection on defense.
Herd was also a second-team All-Conference selection at quarterback while center Andrew Wallen was picked as honorable mention.
Johnson also made the All-Conference defensive second team as an inside linebacker, along with honorable mention selections Felix Zambergs (line) and Asher Knopik (inside linebacker).
The Vikings went 4-5 in their first year in Western A this season, putting up 32.1 points-per-game while holding their opponents to just 25.3.
Thorness led the team with 95.1 receiving yards per game and scored a team-high 12 touchdowns while Johnson led the ground attack with 61.1 yards per contest while adding a team-high 11.8 tackles.
Herd was tied for the team lead with two interceptions and was eighth on the squad in tackles this season while Carlson was seventh.
Wallen had 48 tackles, third on the Vikings this season, while Zambergs was ninth in tackles and Knopik was second with 62.
