Both the Vikes and Vals soccer squads found themselves in close matches at home Thursday as they hosted Whitefish as part of the week’s Homecoming festivities.

The Vikings employed a defensive strategy against the Bulldogs in their matchup, but found themselves down 3-0 at the break.

Bigfork’s defense buckled down even more in the second half, holding the Bulldogs scoreless while Quinn Kerr got the Vikings on the scoreboard on the final play of the match.

With the 3-1 loss, the Vikings fall to 0-9-1 this season with two matchups left, a Tuesday bout against Polson after press time and a Saturday trip to Libby to face the Loggers.

The Valkyries found themselves down 1-0 to the Lady Bulldogs at the break Thursday and fell behind 2-0 before Brynn Bagley scored an unassisted goal to cut the Whitefish lead to 2-1.

That’s where the score would remain, though, as the Vals fell by one.

With the loss the Vals are third in the Northwest A standings at 2-2-2 and 5-3-2 overall.
