Valkyries hold Lady Loggers, Lady Pirates scoreless for wins
Keeper Irelynd Vigil and the Valkyries defense held both of their opponents scoreless this week as Bigfork’s lady soccer players picked up wins over Polson and Libby.
Callie Gembala scored a first-half goal to put the Vals up 1-0 at the break in Polson Sept. 12 before adding another in the second half as Bigfork pulled away for a 3-0 victory.
Paeten Gunlock added the other goal for the Vals in the win.
The Valkyries put on an offensive and defensive showcase at home Saturday as they had no trouble against Libby, downing the Lady Loggers 6-0.
Bigfork’s strikers attacked from distance against the Lady Loggers as Paeten Gunlock, Piper Buzzell and Gembala all scored in the first half to put the Vals up 3-0.
It was more of the same in the second half as Braeden Gunlock, Brynn Bagley and Gracie Johnson all got in on the scoring act to help earn Bigfork the win.
With the wins, the Vals improve to 5-2-1 this season and 2-1-1 in Northwest A Conference play, putting them in third place behind Whitefish (7-1, 4-0) and Columbia Falls (5-1-1, 2-1-1).
The Vals will be back in action Saturday as they play a critical game against the Wildkats in Columbia Falls at 5 p.m.
