Vikes battle to 3-3 tie with Libby
The Vikings soccer squad put up three goals at home Saturday but had to settle for a tie as they battled the Libby Loggers to a 3-3 draw.
Caleb Riedesel wasted no time getting the Vikings on the scoreboard with a breakaway goal in the opening 30 seconds of the match, but Libby foreign exchange student Joaquin Canizares answered with a pair of breakaway goals of his own to put Libby up 2-1 midway through the first half.
A goal by Max Schara tied things up later in the half and the teams were tied 2-2 at the break.
Curtis Scherfenberg scored for the Vikes in the second half, but Bigfork had to settle for the tie to go to 0-7-1 on the season.
Bigfork fell behind the Pirates 4-0 at the half in Polson Sept. 12 and could not recover in the second half as the Vikes fell 4-1.
Riedesel scored the lone goal for Bigfork in the second half.
At 0-7-1, the Vikings sit in fifth place in the Northwest A standings with four games remaining in the regular season.
The Vikes will be on the road Saturday as they face defending state champion Columbia Falls at 7 p.m.
