Bigfork Playhouse Children’s Theatre’s ‘Matilda Jr.’ final performances this weekend

| September 28, 2023 10:35 AM

Bigfork Playhouse Children’s Theatre presents season opener “Matilda Jr.” — a story of an extraordinary little girl with extraordinary powers.

Forty local youths power this junior version of the Broadway musical. In the story, which is based on Roald Dahl’s classic novel, “Matilda,” the daughter of abusive parents, finds refuge in library books, which she reads quickly and creates her own stories. Things are no better at school, where she also must face a tyrannical and cruel headmistress, Miss Trunchbull, who believes in Crunchem Hall’s motto: “Children are Maggots.” She finds companionship in her teacher, Miss Honey, who, though well-intentioned, is shy and fragile. Brave little Matilda knows she has to stand up against the adults in her world, and in doing so, discovers her own remarkable powers. Matilda’s bravery teaches Miss Honey and her classmates an important lesson — that even though life can be hard, “Nobody but me is gonna change my story” so “sometimes you have to be a little bit naughty.”

Performances will be held at the Bigfork Center for the Performing Arts, 526 Electric Ave. at 7:30 p.m. Sept. 29, and 30. A 2 p.m. matinee is scheduled Oct. 1.

Ticket prices are $14 for adults, $12 for seniors, $11 for students and $10 for children under 10. Tickets may be purchased online at www.bigforksummerplayhouse.com or at the box office one hour prior to performances.
