Community meeting to discuss recreation impacts on Flathead River
Flathead Conservation District and Flathead River Commission will soon present their findings from a 2022 study on the impacts of recreational boating on the Flathead River; initiated in response to concern from landowners.
“Over July-September 2022, wave energy and power were measured and correlated to type of boat and use at monitoring stations along the lake-influenced, lower 22-mile section of the Flathead River. Results suggest boat wakes are a substantial eroding force on sensitive streambanks,” a press release from FCD read.
The meeting will include study findings, community discussion, and an opportunity to view an impacted section of the river. It will take place Thursday, August 29 at 6 p.m. at Diamond B, 2909 Danford Lane in Kalispell.
