SVC teaches winter tracking and sign classes

| December 11, 2024 12:00 AM

Note: Since publication, SVC cancelled the Dec. 14 class. Another class will be added March 8.

Swan Valley Connections hosts the first of three winter wildlife tracks and sign classes Saturday, Dec. 14.

SVC managing directors and CyberTracker North America certified specialists Luke and Sara Lamar will lead their group on a hike, designed to be manageable for a range of ages and abilities. Snowshoes and transportation will be provided.

Participants will learn about gait patterns, measuring the stride and straddle between tracks, signs other than tracks to be on the lookout for, and gain knowledge of some of the common behaviors of local wildlife.

“Our education programs aim to strengthen the relationship between people and landscapes through placed-based experiences,” SVC said in a press release. “We cultivate compassion and enthusiasm for the natural world in children, challenge young adults to understand the complexities of land and resource management, and provide adults with opportunities to engage with the place they live, work, and play in.”

The class will meet at the Condon Work Center, 6887 MT-83, at 11 a.m. with the workshop expected to continue through 4 p.m. Registration is $100 and can be completed at https://swan.app.neoncrm.com/np/clients/swan/eventRegistration.jsp?event=408&.

For those who can’t make it on Saturday, SVC plans to host two other courses Jan. 18 and Feb. 15. Course information and registration can be found at www.swanvalleyconnections.org/events
