Thorness selected for Shrine game, winter sports resume Thursday

Senior tight end Eli Thorness will represent Vikings football at the 77th Montana East-West Shrine game in Billings June 15.

Thorness was named to the West squad after leading the Vikings in total touchdowns and receiving TDs with 12 last season while also averaging a team-high 95.1 receiving yards per contest in 2023.

Wyatt Johnson was selected as an alternate to the west squad at outside linebacker after leading the Vikings with 11.8 tackles per game last season and Tristen Herd was named an alternate at safety after collecting two interceptions last season.

The Vikes and Vals winter sports will pick up after the Christmas and New Year’s break this week as both basketball squads take on Libby Thursday.

The Vals will be looking to extend their six-game winning streak as they travel Libby to face the 1-5 Lady Loggers while the Vikings will face the 2-4 Loggers in Bigfork.

Both teams are back in action Saturday as the Vikings take on the Wildcats in Coumbia Falls while the Vals host the Wildkats in Bigfork.

The Valkyries swim team will be at the Mission Valley Aquatic Center in Polson Friday for the Polson Invitational before traveling to Butte for the Butte Invitational Saturday.

The Vikes and Vals wrestling teams open the new year at Linderman Gym in Polson for the Polson Triangular Thursday before making the trip to Ronan for the Western Montana Duals Friday and Saturday.

Bigfork’s wrestlers will host a home mixer Tuesday.
