Allen George McLean

Allen (Al) McLean passed away on December 22, 2023 with his family by his side.  Holding his hand as he passed was his loving wife of 64 years, Carol McLean.

Allen was born on May 14, 1939 in Waterbury, Connecticut to Ola (Allen) McLean and James McLean Sr.  Allen grew up in Waterbury Connecticut, Miami Florida and settled with his mother Ola and stepfather Frank McKiernan in Bowling Green, Ohio where he graduated from Bowling Green High School.  

Bowling Green, Ohio is also where he met and fell in love with his wife, Carol Clark.

Allen went on to attend Bowling Green State University where he earned Bachelors and Masters degrees in Secondary Education. 

Allen and Carol were married in 1959 and together raised three sons, Kris, Todd and Greg.

Allen had a successful career as a high school educator, athletic director, football coach and education administrator.  Allen spent many years volunteering as an event leader for the Special Olympics in Elyria, Ohio.  

He had a positive impact on the lives of thousands of young people, students, and athletes during his 30-year career in education and coaching in northeast Ohio.    

Allen retired with Carol to Bigfork, Montana where they golfed, snowmobiled and made many close friends during the next 30 years of their lives together.

Allen is survived by his wife Carol, three sons and their wives, Kris and Barb McLean, Todd and Maria McLean, Greg and Lisa McLean, his brother James McLean Jr and his wife Barb, and many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

A celebration of Allen’s life well lived for friends and family will be held in the spring of 2024 in Bigfork, Montana.
