Bigfork baseball team begins inaugural season
After a huge surge in community efforts and support, Bigfork High School officially has a baseball team this spring.
The team is made up of mostly underclassmen with a few juniors. Although they are young, they are also talented and head coach Dave Romano is looking forward to seeing them grow throughout the season.
“They’re young, but they are good character kids with a lot of heart,” Romano said.
Spring is notorious for its spotty weather, something Romano expects to be a challenge for the group. Right now, they are forced to practice inside until the snow clears from the fields. This limits their ability to fully hone their skills.
Despite this, Romano believes the hard work and talent displayed on his team will shine through.
As a player himself for many years, Romano holds a deep respect for the sport.
He commented, “I love this game.”
Romano thanked the Bigfork community for their overwhelming support of the baseball program. He was very impressed with the amount of help and funds the little town raised to make the baseball dream a reality.
“A huge shout out to the Sluggers too,” Romano added about the baseball program at ABS park. The nonprofit is permitting Bigfork to use their fields in Kalispell for their first four to five home games.
